MotionRec – Screen Recorder
A product by EurekaBits
Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 20, 2026
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how information is handled when you use MotionRec – Screen Recorder (“MotionRec”), a macOS application provided by EurekaBits (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
MotionRec is designed so that core recording and editing happen on your Mac. This policy explains what permissions the app may request, what stays on your device, what limited network activity may occur, and how MotionRec Pro purchases are handled through Apple.
2. Screen Recordings
When you record with MotionRec, video and related media files are created and stored on your Mac. By default, recordings are saved in MotionRec’s application data recordings folder. You can also choose a different recordings directory in the app.
MotionRec does not upload your screen recordings to EurekaBits servers. Recordings remain on your Mac unless you choose to export, copy, share, or otherwise move them using tools you control (for example, saving an export to Downloads and sharing that file yourself).
MotionRec does not apply end-to-end encryption to recording files. Standard local file protection depends on your macOS account settings and device security.
3. Screen & System Audio
MotionRec requests Screen Recording permission (and related capture capabilities) so it can capture the display content and, when enabled, system audio that you choose to record. Capture starts only when you begin a recording in the app.
Captured screen and system audio content is written to local files on your Mac as part of the recording session. MotionRec does not transmit that capture content to EurekaBits for processing.
4. Microphone
Microphone access is optional. MotionRec uses the microphone only when you enable microphone recording. If enabled, microphone audio is saved locally alongside your recording (for example, as a local audio sidecar file) so you can edit and export it later.
You can change microphone permission in macOS System Settings. If you do not enable microphone recording, MotionRec does not need microphone access for basic screen capture.
5. Camera
Camera access is optional. MotionRec uses the camera only when you enable camera recording (for example, a webcam overlay). If enabled, camera video is stored locally with your recording session so it can be positioned and exported as part of your project.
You can revoke camera permission at any time in macOS System Settings.
6. Accessibility
MotionRec may request Accessibility permission on macOS. MotionRec uses Accessibility access for features such as detecting user interactions and clicks required for cursor-focused recording and automatic zoom functionality.
In practice, while a recording session is active, MotionRec may observe cursor position and click interactions and may use Accessibility APIs to help determine cursor-related presentation for editing features such as automatic zoom. Related interaction data used for editing (for example, cursor timeline data associated with a recording) is stored locally with your recording files.
Accessibility access is requested to support recording and editing features you use in MotionRec. It is not intended as a general-purpose monitor of unrelated activity outside those features.
7. Captions / Speech Processing
MotionRec can generate captions from recorded speech using on-device speech-to-text processing based on a local Whisper model (whisper.cpp). Caption generation runs on your Mac: MotionRec extracts audio locally and does not send that audio to a third-party transcription API for captioning.
To enable captions, MotionRec may download a speech model file over HTTPS from Hugging Face (the publicly hosted whisper.cpp model binary) and store it locally in MotionRec’s application data. That download is for the model weights used on-device; it is separate from sending your recording audio to a remote transcription service.
8. Files and Exports
MotionRec stores project work as local files on your Mac, including:
- Recordings in your configured recordings directory
- Project files with the
.motionrecextension (commonly under a Projects folder inside your recordings directory, or another location you choose when saving) - Exported videos you save through the export dialog (the default suggested location is your Downloads folder)
Temporary processing files may be created in your system temporary directory during recording, editing, caption generation, or export, and are cleaned up as part of normal app workflows where possible.
You control your exported files. Once you export or save a file to a location you choose, that file is subject to whatever sharing, backup, or cloud sync tools you use outside MotionRec (for example, iCloud Drive syncing a folder you selected).
9. Purchases and Subscriptions
MotionRec Pro purchases and subscriptions (including free trial eligibility where offered) are processed through the Mac App Store using Apple’s StoreKit / In-App Purchase systems. Restore Purchases uses Apple’s purchase restoration mechanisms.
MotionRec does not directly receive or store your payment card information. Payment processing and App Store account billing are handled by Apple under Apple’s own terms and privacy practices.
MotionRec may receive limited subscription-related information from StoreKit that is needed to unlock Pro features—such as entitlement status, product identifier, and expiration timing—and may store that entitlement information locally on your Mac so the app can recognize an active subscription. EurekaBits does not operate a separate MotionRec account or backend checkout system for managing these subscriptions.
10. Data Collection
Based on MotionRec’s current implementation, EurekaBits does not operate analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs inside MotionRec that track your usage across the internet for marketing purposes.
MotionRec does not require a MotionRec user account or login to record, edit, or manage App Store subscriptions.
MotionRec may create local technical files needed for product features (for example, cursor interaction data used for automatic zoom and editing). Those files remain on your Mac with your recordings and are not sent to EurekaBits as analytics.
Limited network activity may still occur for product functionality described in the Third-Party Services section below (such as downloading a caption model, fetching an announcements feed, or Apple subscription verification).
11. Third-Party Services
MotionRec may interact with the following third-party services as part of normal operation:
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — purchase, restore, and entitlement verification for MotionRec Pro on Mac App Store builds.
- Hugging Face — optional download of the local Whisper speech model used for on-device captions.
- GitHub — MotionRec may fetch a public announcements JSON feed hosted in the MotionRec repository. On non–Mac App Store distribution builds, MotionRec may also check for application updates via GitHub Releases. Mac App Store builds do not use that GitHub auto-update path; App Store updates are delivered by Apple.
- Google Fonts (optional) — only if you add a custom Google Font in the app, MotionRec may load that font from Google’s font service.
These services process information according to their own privacy policies. MotionRec does not use a EurekaBits-operated subscription backend to validate purchases.
12. Data Sharing
EurekaBits does not sell your personal information. MotionRec is not built around uploading your recordings to EurekaBits for sharing with third parties.
Information may be processed by Apple when you purchase or restore MotionRec Pro, and by the limited third-party endpoints described above when you use features that require them (for example, downloading a caption model). If you contact EurekaBits for support, we will use the information you choose to send us to respond to your request.
13. Children's Privacy
MotionRec is a screen recording and editing tool for creating demos, walkthroughs, and similar videos. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through MotionRec.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to EurekaBits in connection with MotionRec, please contact us using the details below so we can review and delete the information as appropriate.
14. Security
We take reasonable steps appropriate to MotionRec’s local-first design to protect the application and related services we control. No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information on your device or in transit to third-party services you use through the app.
You can further protect your recordings by using a strong macOS account password, FileVault, and careful handling of exported files.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of MotionRec after an update means you should review the revised policy.
